EDM Challenge #12 - Draw what you ate for dinner

This is one of my favourite paintings that I've done. The dinner was chicken sausages, mashed potato and peas. We don't eat this kind of dinner very often, but sometimes it is exactly what you want. The hands are those of my daughter Mallory's ex-boyfriend, and consequently, she doesn't like this painting. But I look at it and I can imagine a lot of things he might be saying... right now I think it might be "...but where's the sauce!??"

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to my other beautiful daughter Caitlin, 19 today. I love you!

Beautifully complete. It's wonderful! I'm curious if you painted this while your own dinner was getting cold, or if it was from photo reference :)

I love this painting, it´s got perfect composition, and I like the colors too. The black that sort of keeps the whole thing together, and the green wall "communicating" with the green peas... Excellent!

This is a wonderful painting. Wow. The foreshortening on the hands and arms is remarkable. The reflections on the silverware are great, too. Was his head cropped on the original, or did you do that to protect the innocent?

Since everyone else ventured a guess I imagine he is saying "what?" as he piles his plate with seconds!

I love it! Ditto what everyone else said about color, composition, foreshortening. The personality you put in the hands is amazing--they speak volumes. What media did you use to paint this?

:-) I think this would be a favorite of mine, too! What a wonderful painting this is -- very expressive! Do you have it hanging in the kitchen?

Thanks everyone for your comments. A few questions here so I'll answer them... Yes, I did paint it from a photo, using acrylic paint. It is a small format canvas panel 12" square, so what you see is what you get. I have occasionally painted other vingnettes of hands and food... it is one of my favourite subjects. And yes, I have it hanging in my kitchen!!!

This is SO great! It reminds me of a Norman Rockwell illustration, but with more edge and drole humor. Fantastically painted!

Marvellous - but where's the gravy - or at least tomato sauce?!

This is wonderful. A unique perspective and fascinating painting.

How large is it?
